The Kansas City Wizards acquired defender Mark Santel from the Dallas Burn for the 1st pick in the 3rd Round of the 2001 draft (25th pick overall). Santel, a St. Louis native, has been in the league since its inception in 1996, spending the first five seasons with the Dallas Burn. Kansas City coach Bob Gansler on Santel: “Mark will fit in very well in Kansas City and within our system. He is fast and has a great knowledge of the game. He can serve quality crosses from both sides of the field and is fast.”
