The 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup has sold more than 200,000 tickets for the tournament. With still over five months left until the first match of USA ’99 on June 19, 1999 at Giants Stadium, the Organizing Committee has sold enough tickets for an average per date crowd of 12,000. More than 25,000 tickets have been purchased for the Final, which will be held at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. “It seems that Women’s World Cup tickets turned out to be a popular gift for the holidays,” said WWC President Marla Messing. “We expected to be at 190,000 by the end of 1998 and we were within a few hundred of 200,000 on New Year’s Eve. Since the start of the year, sales for all markets have picked up and we expect them to accelerate even more following the Final Draw next month.” The FIFA Women’s World Cup Final Draw, which will determine the tournament’s seedings and first round schedule, will be conducted at halftime of the first-ever FIFA Women’s World All-Star Match at Spartan Stadium on Sunday, February 14, 1998. The World All-Star Match, which will pit the Olympic champion U.S. women’s national team against a squad of the world’s best players, and the draw will be shown live on ESPN2.
