World Cup ’98 Qualifying: FIFA moves Guatemala matches

FIFA announced Nov. 15 that Guatemala must play its three home qualifying matches for France ’98 on neutral grounds in the wake of last month’s tragedy at the Mateo Flores Stadium.

Guatemala’s match against Costa Rica, which had been postponed, will be played in Los Angeles on Nov. 24. It will also play in Los Angeles on Dec. 8, against Trinidad & Tobago.

The final match of Group 1 qualifying, against the U.S., will take place in San Salvador on Dec. 21.

FIFA also ruled that the Mateo Flores Stadium cannot be used until further notice.
