The Netherlands and Brazil are scoreless at halftime of their semifinal match in Marseille. The first half featured a few scoring opportunities and some excellent defense, as Dennis Bergkamp and Ronaldo had limited opportunities to create chances. Perhaps the most dangerous opportunities for the Dutch were headers by Patrick Kluivert — a driven one that went just over the bar in the 29th minute and another in stoppage time. Brazil’s Roberto Carlos had a free kick late in the half from about the same range as his famous strike in last year’s Tournoi de France, but hit a grass-cutter that was easily saved by Edwin Van Der Sar. Two yellow cards were issued — to Brazil’s Ze Carlos in the 31st minute and teammate Cesar Sampaio in the 45th.
