In the opening minute of the second half, Asanovic looped a ball to Suker, who had timed his run perfectly to get behind Laurent Blanc and inside the French area. He ran onto the ball and beat keeper Fabien Barthez with a low shot to the far post. Shortly after the restart, Lilian Thuram dispossessed a Croatian defender and executed a perfect give-and-go with Youri Djorkaeff.
