Lilian Thuram’s 70th minute goal has given France a 2-1 lead over Croatia in their semifinal match. France threatened again shortly after the exchange of goals, but had a succession of shots blocked in the Croatian box. In the 62nd minute, Thierry Henry broke free down the right flank and made a run into the box. He cut back to beat a pair of defenders, but fired right at Ladic, who made the save. David Trezeguet came on as a sub for Guivarc’h in the 69th minute, and a minute later, Thuram booted France into the lead. He took the ball away from a Croatian player just outside the area, dribbled inside for a few feet, and cracked a powerful shot into the far corner that left Ladic no chance. It was Thuram’s second strike of the match. Shortly afterward, France received a blow when Laurent Blanc was red-carded for shoving Slaven Bilic in the Croatian box. Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf then came into the match for Djorkaeff.
