USA ‘Quiet, Confident’ on eve of World Cup opener The U.S. World Cup Team will go into tomorrow night’s opener against Germany with all 22 players fit to play, according to head coach Steve Sampson. “Our team is quiet and confident,” Sampson said as he addressed nearly 100 members of the media at Parc des Princes, the site of Monday’s Group F match, this afternoon. “We hope that the French are with the U.S. If the players come out and get support from the fans it will be a big lift for us.” The U.S. team went through a light 70-minute workout today. Afterwards, many of the players met up with family and friends as they had the afternoon free. Parc des Princes omen Parc des Princes has not been a lucky stadium for the Germans, as they lost there in 1977 in Franz Beckenbauer’s last international match and also went down to Spain in the 1984 European Championship. Of note The U.S. defense has not surrendered a goal in more than four games (375 minutes), its longest shutout streak ever. The U.S. team has lost just three times in its last 17 games. The team is 9-3-5 dating back to Sept. 7, 1997, outscoring its opponents 23-11. Of the last 14 U.S. goals, an amazing 12 different players have scored. Only Eric Wynalda and Preki Radosavljevic have scored twice in this span. Team Schedule Monday, June 15 9:00 p.m. USA vs. Germany, Parc de Princes.
