U.S. looks strong, healthy in exhibition win The U.S. national team downed French Second Division club FC Gueugnon 4-0 in a 90-minute closed-door scrimmage this afternoon in Saint-Jean D’ardieres, France. The victory was an important measuring stick for head coach Steve Sampson as he prepares the U.S. team for its first match June 15 against Germany. The U.S. was led by goalscorers Cobi Jones, Brian Maisonneuve, Brian McBride and Ernie Stewart. Sampson was able to utilize every player, and, in addition to having the entire roster at his disposal for the first time since it was announced, Sampson was also able to get all three U.S. goalkeepers (Kasey Keller, Brad Friedel and Juergen Summer) some playing time. Sampson highlighted the play of Frankie Hejduk and Joe-Max Moore in his post-game quotes, saying, “I was very pleased with the play of Frankie; he did very well for 45 minutes today. He is still not ready for a full 90 minutes, but specifically, I was pleased the directness of his play and his ability to get behind the defense.” “I was happy with Joe-Max’s ability to play-make in the middle,” Sampson added. “Brian McBride played 45 minutes and did as well as he did against Macedonia, and this time he finished an opportunity in the first half. It was a very successful game.” Team’s updated tentative schedule Following is a look at the team’s tentative schedule over the next couple of days: Wednesday, June 10 10 a.m. Depart for CLOSED training at Trevoux. 1:30 p.m. Joe-Max Moore, Preki Radosavljevic meet with media. 5:30 p.m. Team watches Scotland-Brazil opener.
