On the team’s mood: “The Brazil-Scotland opening game really helped us feel the excitement of this World Cup. It’s very quiet out here in Pizay, but when we get to Paris we will be ready.” On the German power: “A big asset of the German team is that they can win ugly. They have so many great players and even if they are not playing well someone always steps up to help them win.” On the disappointment of not making the ’94 World Cup team: “After not receiving playing time in the ’90 World Cup, I went to England to play, something no other United States keeper was doing. I felt that experience put me in a good position to succeed for the U.S. team in ’94, but unfortunately I was not selected.”

On why Thomas Dooley will not train tonight: “Every once in a while you have to give this guy a day off. I want to make sure he is sharp for Monday.” On Juergen Klinsmann: “Whether he is on or off the field, he will be a positive influence for the German national team. But if given the opportunity to start, Klinsmann will attempt to make the most of it.” On Oliver Bierhoff: “He is one of the best strikers in the world right now, who is in very good form. He will be a handful for any team he plays against.”
