If form holds, the United States will open the semifinal round of 2006 World Cup qualifying with potentially its toughest Group A match — a trip to Jamaica, where the Reggae Boyz have held the U.S. to ties in their meetings in World Cup qualifying (0-0 ties in 1986, 1997 and 2001)..
The U.S. first meets the winner of Grenada and Guyana in a home-and-home series June 13 and June 20, with the first match to be played in the United States at a site to be determined. Grenada's Spice Boyz are the likely U.S. opponents after their 5-0 victory over Guyana on Feb. 28. The return match in the first-round series is set for March 13 in Guyana.
If the U.S. advances to the semifinal round, it will play three of its first four games on the road before closing with home matches on Oct. 13 and Nov. 17.
In the semifinal round, Group A will consist of:
— USA or Grenada-Guyana winner
— El Salvador or Bermuda-Montserrat winner
— Jamaica or Haiti
— Panama or British Virgin Islands-St. Lucia winner
Sites for all of the U.S. World Cup qualifying games have yet to be determined.
