It was a rough weekend for the top clubs in Europe's major leagues.

Winger Aaron Lennon scored in the 52nd minute to give Spurs the 2-1 win.

Lyon, winner of the last five French league titles, lost for the first time this season when it fell at Rennes, 1-0. Stephane M'Bia's early goal doomed Lyon, which was gunning for a record 10th successive league victory. Lyon's Brazilian star, Juninho, was sent off in the Ligue 1 clash. Surprise Nancy moved into second, nine points behind Lyon, with a 2-1 win over struggling Bordeaux on goals by Sebastien Puygrenier and Moncef Zerka.

Defending La Liga champion Barca fell to second place in Spain after being held to a 1-1 tie by Deportivo Coruna on the road on Saturday. Sevilla took the lead after goals from Frederic Kanoute and Adriano Correia gave it a 2-0 home win over Osasuna. Powerhouse Real Madrid fell to fourth place behind Real Zaragoza after it lost, 2-1, at home to Celta on Jorge's goal eight minutes from time.

Bayern Munich, last year's Bundesliga champion, and Schalke remained in a second-place tie, three points behind Werder Bremen, after they played to a 2-2 tie. Bayern came back from two goals down to earn a point thanks to goals by Andreas Ottl and Roy Makaay.

Italian power AC Milan dropped to 16th in the 20-team Serie A with a 2-0 loss to Atalanta on second-half goals by strikers Nicola Ventola and Andrea Soncin. The loss left Milan 17 points behind leaders Inter Milan and Palermo, who beat Ascoli and Sampdoria, 2-0, at home respectively.
