Maribel Dominguez scored the sixth hat trick in WUSA history and Atlanta Beat routed visiting Boston on Saturday, pinning a 6-0 defeat on the Breakers after swamping New York, 5-0, in last week's opener.

Homare Sawa added a pair of goals and rookie ''reserve'' player Abby Crumpton netted her second goal of the season for the Beat (2-0-0, 6 points), which weathered a difficult first half-hour and took charge with goals four minutes apart late in the first half.

Dominguez, a Mexican national team star who was the W-League's MVP and leading scorer last season, tallied in the 36th, 51st and 67th minutes.

''Scoring six goals is nice, but the story behind the story was our backline,'' Atlanta coach Tom Stone said. ''Our defense really saved us in the first 30 minutes of the game. No one wants to talk about defense when you score six goals, but that's what wins championships.''

The match at Herndon Stadium drew only 4,672 fans, a little more than half as many attended the Beat's romp over the Power on April 5.

Boston fell to 1-1-0 (3 points).

In the other WUSA game on Saturday:

Washington 3 New York 1: Jacqui Little scored goals in the 39th and 44th minutes and the Freedom (2-0-0, 6 points) won in its home opener over the Power (0-2-0, 0 points).

Jaclyn Raveia pulled New York within a goal just before halftime, but Mia Hamm's 83rd-minute penalty kick — after she was taken down in the box by Tammy Pearman — iced the win for Washington.
