The Bay Area CyberRays twice rallied from one-goal deficits to tie the Atlanta Beat, 3-3, and then prevailed, 4-2, on penalty kicks to take the inaugural WUSA championship. Australian Julie Murray has the decisive penalty kick for the Rays, who finished second to the Beat during the regular season. Atlanta had taken a 2-1 lead after only 14 minutes before Murray’s tying goal shortly before halftime. Chinese star Sun Wen gave Atlanta the lead with seven minutes left, but former U.S. international Tisha Venturini scored three minutes later to second the game into overtime. Bay Area made all four penalties, while Sun and Canadian star Charmaine Hooper both missed for Atlanta. The first WUSA final drew 21,078 fans at Foxboro Stadium. Aug. 25 in Foxboro, Mass.
