Jay Entlich, a U.S. women's national team staff coach with collegiate coaching experience, was announced Tuesday as the Carolina Courage's new head coach.
Entlich, 31, comes to the Courage from his post as Region IV women's head coach. He served as an assistant with the U.S. under-21 team last month at a training camp in Chula Vista, Calif., where he worked with Carolina goalkeeper coach Scott Calabrese.
The former Virginia Tech standout also served as head coach of the University of Tampa's women's program in 2000-01 after stints as assistants with Virginia Tech's men's team and Mississippi's women's team.
''Jay has had an almost meteoric rise through the ranks of women's soccer,'' Courage general manager Scott Travasos said. ''He has been a difference-maker and winner at every step along his path.''
Entlich replaces Marcia McDermott, who stepped down in November after leading the Courage to the WUSA title. McDermott subsequently was hired as the club's assistant general manager.
