Pu Wei's stoppage-time strike from Mia Hamm's corner kick Sunday delivered to the Washington Freedom a 3-2 victory over Atlanta and a berth in the WUSA semifinals.

Hamm came off the bench to spark the Freedom (10-5-5, 35 points), scoring a 58th-minute equalizer and setting up Bai Jie for a short-lived lead in the 75th minute lead before feeding Pu for the winner. Washington is unbeaten in eight games.

The victory secured a home assignment in the Aug. 17 semifinals for first-place Philadelphia (11-3-5, 38 points).

Philadelphia and Carolina (11-5-3, 36 points) clinched playoff berths on Saturday.

Atlanta (10-8-1, 31 points) is battling defending champion San Jose (8-7-4, 28 points) for the final playoff berth. The Beat has home games Wednesday against San Diego and Saturday against Philadelphia. San Jose finishes Wednesday at Philadelphia and Saturday at Boston. A Beat victory or CyberRays loss would settle things.

Charmaine Hooper's 11th goal of the season gave Atlanta a 13th-minute lead. Washington, outshot, 14-4, in the first half, took charge after Hamm entered at halftime although it couldn't overcame the Beat until the end.

Hamm evened things after a dynamic run at the Beat defense 13 minutes into the second half, and Bai flicked home Hamm's corner kick in the 75th to give the Freedom a 2-1 lead.

It lasted two minutes, with Cindy Parlow heading home a Hooper cross.

Pu's winner, in the second minute of stoppage time, was a redirection of Hamm's corner kick to the far post.

Goalkeeper Erin Fahey, playing in place of Siri Mullinix, made 10 saves for Washington.

In Sunday's other game:

Boston 4 New York 1: Bettina Wiegmann and Angela Hucles each had a goal and an assist as the Breakers (5-8-7, 22 points) remained unbeaten at home with a one-sided win before 6,462 at Nickerson Field.

Maren Meinert and Kristine Lilly each dished off two assists — giving them 14 and 13, respectively — Dagny Mellgren scored her 11th goal, and Allie Kemp scored her second career goal, tallying for the second successive game. Boston is 4-0-5 this season in games at Nickerson and CMGI Field in suburban Foxboro.

Tammy Pearman tallied in the 51st minute for New York (3-15-1, 10 points), which was outshot, 20-4, and clinched last place in the WUSA. Saskia Webber made 10 saves for the Power.
