WUSA: Pretinha’s PK wins opener for Freedom Brazilian forward Pretinha converted a penalty kick in the 70th minute to give host Washington a win over the Bay Area in the WUSA’s inaugural game today at RFK Stadium. Referee Sandra Hunt pointed to the penalty spot after CyberRays defender Brandi Chastain fouled U.S. teammate Mia Hamm in the Bay Area penalty area. In the first half, CyberRays midfielder Tisha Venturini left the match with a fractured left wrist after a clash with Washington defender Lindsay Stoecker. Venturini came down from headfirst from the collision and apparently broke the wrist trying to protect herself on the landing. The injury will keep Venturini out of the CyberRays April 29 home opener vs. Boston. Doctors at the Washington Hospital Center, where Venturini was treated, said she could probably resume training in two weeks and be ready to play in a soft cast shortly after that. They said she suffered a clean break of the ulnar and radius — the two arm bones between the elbow and wrist — near the wrist. April 14 in Washington, D.C. Washington 1 Bay Area 0.
