The Bay Area CyberRays came from behind for their first win at the expense of winless Carolina, 2-1. In San Jose, Calif., Carolina’s Tiffany Roberts did a masterful job of containing the CyberRays’ Sissi until the 67th minute, when the Brazilian star lofted a perfect pass to teammate Tisha Venturini in the Carolina penalty area. The Bay Area midfielder, back on the field for the first time since she broke her left wrist in the league opener, chested the ball down and slotted it past Carolina goalkeeper Bente Nordby for the game winner. Meanwhile, San Diego, Boston and Philadelphia all came from behind to tie on the road. Boston’s tie with Washington came in the first match of a double-header with the MLS’s D.C. United and San Jose Earthquakes. Over 21,000 watched the WUSA match. The Power’s attendance continued to dwindle. Last week, New York drew 3,184 for its win over Carolina. This week, 2,348 watched as the Power squandered a 2-0 lead against the Charge. The CyberRays didn’t do much better, drawing 5,543 for its Mother’s Day win over the Courage.
