Carlos Costly scored two goals, the second in the 90th minute, to give Honduras a stunning 2-1 victory over Mexico on Sunday before 68,123 fans at Giants Stadium in the Gold Cup.

The loss — only the second ever for Mexico in group play at the Gold Cup — came two days after the Tri had to rally from one goal down to beat Cuba, 2-1, in its opener and just five days after Paraguay handed it a 1-0 loss, only its second defeat at Azteca Stadium in the last quarter century.

Cuauhtemoc Blanco had put Mexico in the lead with a penalty kick in the 29th minute, but the soon-to-be Chicago Fire striker was sent off in the 49th minute for elbowing former Fire defender Samuel Caballero on a corner kick, changing the complexion of the game.

Costly, who plays in Poland for GKS Belchatow, evened the score with a goal 10 minutes later and won the game for the Catrachos with a header off a cross from Emilio Izaguirre.

Panama, which beat Honduras, 3-2, on Friday night, tied Cuba, 2-2, to take over the Group C lead but blew a chance to wrap up a berth in quarterfinals when the Canaleros captain Felipe Baloy missed a penalty kick.

Long-range goals by 42-year-old Jocelyn Angloma and David Fleurival gave upstart Guadeloupe a 2-1 win over Canada Saturday night in Group A.

The win gave Guadeloupe the lead with four points, one ahead of Canada. Haiti, which tied Costa Rica, 1-1, is in third place with two points. Costa Rica is last with one point.
