Doug Sershen Durham N.C. I’m curious how MLS comes up with its ESPN, espn2, ABC and Univision television schedule. In short, the TV schedule is full of bad match-ups and missed opportunities. The Chicago-D.C. match is a prime example of a game that simply must be televised if the league expects TV ratings to rise. […]

Qualifying is underway to determine the 32 teams that will compete in the 1999 U.S. Open Cup, which begins in June. The format will be similar to last year, with eight D3 Pro League teams squaring off against four PDL and four USASA teams in the first round, which is set for June 9-13. The […]

On the eve of the opening of the new soccer stadium in Columbus, it’s only appropriate that we get Lamar Hunt’s take on the pro soccer scene (see Soccer Talk and From the Field in the May 17 issue of SA). Hunt has been a constant on the soccer scene for more than 30 years […]

Susan Bush isn’t your stereotypical North Carolina recruit, the one that dreamed about going to Carolina as a kid. Bush’s biggest goal when she was younger was just making her regional team. “I never actually thought about playing there” at Carolina, the U.S. World Cup hopeful said. “I never thought that I could.” The addition […]

Forward Mia Hamm […]

This summer, the United States will host the third Women's World Cup, and while the American women are picked by many to win, the 16-team field features several strong challengers. Norway, the 1995 champion, is a bitter rival of the U.S., while China snapped the Americans' 50-game home winning streak on April 25. European champion […]
