The Seattle Sounders won the A-League title with a 2-1 shootout victory over the Atlanta Ruckus, the king of the shootout. As more and more soccer championships are being decided by shootouts, a growing number of players and coaches actually seem to be OK with it. At least that was the case as the A-League […]

The Seattle Sounders had to wait to until the last five minutes to put away the Atlanta Ruckus in Game 2 of the Championship Series. With just over five minutes remaining in their do-or-die game with the Atlanta Ruckus, the Seattle Sounders had just one complaint. The scoreline was only 1-0 in their favor. And […]

“Running for president of the federation [against Alan Rothenberg] in 1994 was the single biggest mistake of my life.” Since being appointed A-League commissioner at the end of the 1994 season, Richard Groff has worked doggedly to salvage the oldest professional outdoor league in this country. USISL commissioner Francisco Marcos sees a bright future for his league as a three-tiered minor league system to Major League Soccer. The 1995 USISL season was, unquestionably, the league’s best ever, says commissioner Francisco Marcos. “We achieved more on the field than we had in any previous season, maybe more than all [previous seasons] combined,” […]
